Every 2017 ZenBook comes with an app called ASUS Battery Health Charging to help regulate and monitor your charging habits. When using it to its full potential, this application can extend battery health considerably.
Fundamentally, lithium-ion batteries degrade more when they’re put at either extreme of a charge. Regularly letting a battery drop to completely dead or keeping it at 100% all of the time will hasten the natural erosion of the metals inside a battery.
To prevent this, the ASUS Battery Health Charging application puts a cap on the maximum battery charge of your ZenBook. This minimizes the battery charge spectrum used and the number of full charge cycles you go through. The cap on maximum charge set by Battery Health Charging can vary based on your day-to-day usage.
If your ZenBook operates almost exclusively on your desktop and is nearly always plugged in, the most conservative power profile limits the maximum charge to 60% and starts charging at 58%. This will ensure your battery has the longest possible lifecycle while still keeping a sufficient charge for light usage while unplugged.
For the days you know you’re going to be on the move and using your ZenBook regularly, you can set the standard profile to allow for a full 100% charge. This is the mode for real road warriors. If you frequently find yourself using your laptop until it’s down to its very last few drops of power, this is the mode you’ll want to leave on.
For something in between, Balanced mode keeps the charge somewhere between 78% and 80%. As a default, this is the perfect choice. It produces some extended benefits to battery life and providing a solid base charge for working untethered.
How to maximize your ZenBook battery health
Disklens v1 0 4. To activate ASUS Battery Health Charging, follow these easy steps.
- Click the upright battery icon in the system tray in the bottom-right, or search for “Battery Health Charging” in the taskbar in the bottom-left.
- Click the profile you want to use in the window that pops up.
- Click the OK button in the bottom-right.
While that controls the charging behavior of your ZenBook, Windows 10 has several adaptive actions it can take based on usage to save on battery drain. These are similarly broken down into three profiles: Power Saver, Balanced, and High Performance.
- Type “Power Options” in the search bar in the bottom-left and click the Control Panel section that pops up.
- From here, click “Change Plan Settings” next to the profile you wish to edit. You’ll need to click “Show Additional Plans” at the bottom to edit the Performance mode.
- Click the drop-down menu to change how long the ZenBook can sit idle before the screen turns off, both for when you’re plugged or unplugged.
- Click the corresponding drop-down menus to change idle time before the ZenBook goes to sleep.
- Move the slider to change the screen brightness to set screen brightness when either plugged or unplugged.
- For highly detailed automatic actions, including what to do when you close the lid of your ZenBook, Click “Change advanced power settings” just below the brightness slider.
- To change Windows 10 Power Profiles, click the dialog box in the bottom-right to open the Action Center. Click the Battery Saver icon along the bottom to toggle it on or off. Performance Mode can be activated from the Power Options window.
With those tips, you should be able to easily keep your ZenBook fully charged and portable for years to come. Maintaining battery health no longer requires guesswork when you’re making use of the Windows 10 power options to automatically make settings adjustments on the fly and ASUS Battery Health Charging to regulate ideal battery charge levels.
